Steel and Carnegie Pension Fund is a registered investment advisor that manages $10 billion in retirement plan assets for U. S. Steel Corporation and former affil! iates. It has 23 employees based in New York City, 17 of whom are investment professionals. Approximately 90% of assets are managed in-house. Stocks are managed according to a long-only, growth-at-a-reasonable-price strategy that emphasizes earning good long-term returns with below average risk. Investment grade bonds are managed with a focus on sector and individual company spread relationships to produce above-average long-term returns with average risk.
Analysts are encouraged to think of themselves as investors and owners in the companies they are responsible for, including matters of corporate governance. An attitude of ownership and responsibility for investment recommendations is essential. Our group operates as a team, and cooperation and sharing information is a requirement.
Specific responsibilities are as follows:
Analyze financial and business information of companies in assigned industry groups:
Maintain specific and in-depth kn! owledge of companies by attending conferences and presentation! s, visiting companies, and maintaining personal contacts with those companies and industries;
Construct and maintain company financial models with several years of income, cash-flow and balance sheet forecasts for companies of interest;
Find new investment opportunities in assigned industries;
Make written and oral recommendations for investment in securities of assigned companies;
Act as credit analyst for money-market instruments and bonds of assigned companies;
Vote proxies of assigned companies.
The successful candidate must be an experienced securities analyst. Specific qualifications include:
Minimum ten years of experience, primarily as an equity analyst or portfolio manager;
Strong fundamental skills in security analysis;
Ability to provide research and recommendations on companies in broad variety of industries;
Desired Degrees and Designations: MBA, CFA or equivalent.
