Job Summary
Elementary school teachers play a vital part in their students' development, setting the standard for their experience of learning, fostering confidence and helping them to grasp basic concepts like reading, science, simple geography and mathematics. Second grade teaching involves interactive learning with games, visual aids, music and other tools to keep students engaged and challenged. Plan and prepare weekly lesson plans based on the Florida standards.
Responsibilities and Duties
1) Establish and enforce rules for behavior and procedures for maintaining order among the students for whom they are responsible. 2) Observe and evaluate students' performance, behavior, social development, and physical health. 3) Prepare materials and classrooms for class activities. 4) Adapt teaching methods and instructional materials to meet students' varying needs and interests. 5) Plan and conduct activities for a balanced program of instruction, demonstration, and work time that provides students with opportunities to observe, question, and investigate. 6) Instruct students individually and in groups, using various teaching methods such as lectures, discussions, and demonstrations. 7) Establish clear objectives for all lessons, units, and projects, and communicate those objectives to students. 8) Assign and grade class work and homework. 9) Read books to entire classes or small groups. 10) Prepare, administer, and grade tests and assignments in order to evaluate students' progress. 11) Confer with parents or guardians, teachers, counselors, and administrators in order to resolve students' behavioral and academic problems. 12) Meet with parents and guardians to discuss their children's progress, and to determine their priorities for their children and their resource needs. 13) Maintain accurate and complete student records as required by laws, district policies, and administrative regulations. 14) Prepare students for later grades by encouraging them to explore learning opportunities and to persevere with challenging tasks.
Qualifications and Skills
Canadite must hold a bachelors degree.
The ability to communicate information and ideas in speaking so others will understand.
The ability to tell when something is wrong or is likely to go wrong. It does not involve solving the problem, only recognizing there is a problem.
The ability to listen to and understand information and ideas presented through spoken words and sentences.
