Finance Director

GHS seeks to maximize revenues and profitability from current clients and new business opportunities by making sound decisions about budgeting, financial planning, client fee structure and human resource allocation. GHS is also looking to ensure strong financial oversight and coordination of its growing operations in the US and internationally.

To achieve this, GHS is seeking a Director of Finance, whose role could grow to that of a Chief Financial Officer. This individual reports to the Principals and is a member of the Senior Management Team. The Director plans, organizes, and directs the overall financial activities of GHS, including all for-profit and non-profit entities. The Director will work closely with organizations committed to ensuring global access to life-saving medicines, vaccines and other health technologies and the ideal candidate will have an interest in making a contribution to this dynamic space.

Key Responsibilities

FINANCIAL PLANNING, COST ACCOUNTING and MANAGEMENT:

  • With Principals and Director of Operations, develops fiscal policies that maximize immediate and long-term financial profitability of the organization. This includes managing efficient billing processes for services, assessing profitability of organizational projects, assessing cash needs, managing multi-currency cash flow, maximizing the appropriate use of funds, forecasting, planning and assuring the investment of funds for long term needs, and overseeing allocations of costs and revenues among four related entities. As part of this process, establishes and maintains global relationships with banks, auditors and other constituents.
  • Leads the organization in financial planning, including forecasting, budgeting and analysis; identifies capital management requirements, cash flow needs and investment management approaches.
  • Provides leadership in developing and evaluating short and long-term strategic financial objectives
  • Assists in developing a framework and process for analyzing benefits and costs of new client opportunities.
  • Optimizes time tracking, resource management, and account profitability and evaluation systems.
  • Oversees all field operations and ensures that effective internal controls/safeguards are in place and in compliance with GAAP and applicable federal, state and local regulatory laws and rules for financial and tax reporting.
ACCOUNTING AND AUDIT:
  • Responsible for global financial activities for the organization. Develops and implements financial procedures and policies in accordance with GAAP, providing internal controls, processes and procedures for NY, India and Brazil operations.
  • Develops, implements and maintains computer-based accounting system for headquarters and India operations that accurately organizes financial records. These records will be organized in accordance with GAAP in a timely manner and will support meaningful reporting to management.
  • Conducts ongoing reviews and internal audits of global operations as necessary.
  • Directs accounting workflow to achieve departmental efficiency within all operations.
REPORT MANAGEMENT:
  • Develops and prepares monthly operational and financial reports for management, program directors, donors and regulatory agencies.
  • Collects, organizes and analyzes the data to assist in making fact-based decisions and to comply with regulations.
  • Prepares monthly consolidated financial statements.
  • Oversees preparation of tax filings.
GRANT/CONTRACT MANAGEMENT:
  • Reviews grant and contract terms to ensure expenditures are properly allocated and that they conform to the defined budget parameters and terms of the contracts with for-profit clients and with nonprofit donors.
  • Develops and implements protocols for GHS Principals and Account Managers to create functional project and client plans, measure progress against those plans and allocate our resources accordingly.
  • Advises on the preparation of client budgets and proposed budgets.
SPECIFIC NON-PROFIT RELATED DUTIES:
  • Ensures that non-profit affiliates of GHS are always in compliance with IRS, NYS Department of Charities, and Indian tax policies, including but not limited to material changes in character, private benefit, unrelated business income and violation of public policy.
  • Responsible for annual filings (990) associated with the organization’s 501(c)(3) status. Maintains GHS’s record-keeping and reporting in order that this status is not jeopardized.
SUPERVISION:
  • Supervises internal accounting and bookkeeping staff at headquarters and in India, as well as at outside accounting firms.
  • Provides training and performance direction as needed.
PURCHASING AND PROCUREMENT

  • Provides support, as needed, to the Director of Operations on purchasing for NY and New Delhi operations and on the development of appropriate purchasing systems, seeking cost savings where possible.
Minimum Qualifications

  • 5-6 years of progressively responsible experience managing financial systems of professional services organizations
  • BA/BS plus CPA required
  • Demonstrated leadership in financial management, operations and oversight
  • Ability to function strategically and as business partner to Principals of organization
  • Adaptable and able to function effectively in complex work environment and deal effectively with numerous simultaneous requirements
  • Advanced skill in integrated accounting software and Excel, and knowledge of relational data base architecture and functionality
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a highly matrixed team
  • Must be a patient and good communicator who can function in an organizational environment involving a diversity of cultures, languages and personal interests and agendas
  • Desire to contribute to improving health in developing and resource-poor countries
  • Demonstrated results helping companies maximize revenue and income
  • Past consulting projects should include solutions for financial projections and revenue targets, billing systems, resource management, and incentive systems
