My client, a global, multi-billion dollar rolled aluminum manufacturing company, ! has 2-3 openings for Manufacturing Unit Managers at the companyâs flagship multi-plant facility in Oswego NY. The Manufacturing Unit Manager is a leadership advancement-track position, responsible for management of certain production lines or a plant within the multi-plant environment at the Oswego flagship (including Hot Mill, Cold Mill, Remelt, etc.).
Depending upon experience, some candidates will start directly in the position of Manufacturing Unit Manager. Most, however, will start as Operations Leaders during a one-year training period, before being promoted and assigned as Manufacturing Unit Managers at the Oswego flagship or as Plant Managers at other manufacturing locations in GA, IL, IN, KY, OH, WV or abroad. All candidates hired pursuant to this search will be compensated at the level of Manufacturing Unit Managers.

JOB SUMMARY:
At the Oswego flagship, the Manufacturing Unit Manager is effectively a plant manager for one of the plants (such as Hot Mill, Cold Mill, Remelt, etc.) and reports to the overall Plant Manager for all of the facilities. In smaller stand-alone facilities located elsewhere in the Eastern US, the Manufacturing Unit Manager is the plant manager.
The Manufacturing Unit Manager position is accountable for managing all aspects of a manufacturing operation in a safe, effective and efficient manner to contribute to the achievement of the Plant and Corporate short term and strategic manufacturing and cost objectives, while meeting internal and external customer requirements.
Th! is position is responsible for leading and managing, within a broad framework of the Plant and Corporate policies, a functionally integrated work force of production, maintenance, metallurgical, engineering and administrative personnel, engaged in the manufacture and shipment of premiere quality rolled aluminum products.
The Manufacturing Unit Manager will:
Manage operational, technical and administrative processes;
Implement established strategies and guidelines;
Propose investments and allocate resources, with the aims of adding value to the business;
Ensure technology updates to meet agreed production targets within planned level of cost and excellence in manufacturing quality;
Promote and guarantee a healthy and safe work environment;
Continuously seek environmental protection through the use potential of people and assets, and
Ensure the positive image of the company within the community.
REQUIREMENTS :
10! years or more of prior relevant metals industry experience in diversif! ied positions of gradually increasing complexity and responsibility is required. However, an applicant from the rolled paper industry is also acceptable.
A Bachelor of Science degree in an Engineering or Technical discipline is required.
An advanced degree in business or engineering is a plus.
Knowledge and understanding of budget establishment, cost development and cost control is essential. Preference for prior P&L experience.
Prior management experience of a group between 50 to 125 individuals is strongly preferred.
Hands-on experience with Lean Manufacturing and/or Six Sigma methods is highly desirable.
