NEW Production and Design Manager

Detailed specification about this occupation opportunity kindly read the description below. Fordham University Press has an immediate opening for a Production and Design Manager. This position will manage design, production, and manufacturing activities for 60-70 new Fordham University Press books (including electronic books) and approximately 25 reprints per year. Specific responsibilities include securing cost quotes and bids for project manufacturing estimates, overseeing formats and specs and reviewing materials for compliance, plus ensuring timely workflow and archiving for each title. In this hands-on role, you will ke! ep track of and advise regarding cover art and non-text elemen! ts, as well as advise on art preparation plus you will calculate accurate cast-offs and write specs and printing contracts. The successful candidate will direct typesetters, electronic prepress suppliers, printers, binders, and other suppliers to obtain quality products on schedule and within budgets; produce or direct production of electronic prepress files and artwork for all books, covers, jackets, illustrations, and other printed and electronically published materials, plus analyze bids to create manufacturing estimates. Additionally you will work with the Managing Editor to prepare production schedules for each project, plus prepare production reports monitoring project status and conformance with schedules and budgets. We seek an outgoing individual who will coordinate with the Press editorial, marketing and administrative staff to establish design criteria for each publication; plus direct the work of freelance designers, securing timely cost quotations for specific ! projects, writing design contracts, and ensuring quality of freelance design work.
The ideal candidate must have a B.A. or B.S, a minimum of three years of experience in positions of progressive responsibility in book publishing, as well as strong organizational skills with the ability to communicate clearly and openly, both verbally and in writing. Strong familiarity with the production of ebooks is preferred. Successful candidates should have a knowledge of and commitment to the goals of Jesuit Education.
