Cooking Instructor

Description: The Child Center of NY at Queens United Middle School is presently looking of Cooking Instructor right now, this occupation will be placed in New York. Detailed specification about this occupation opportunity please read the description below. Looking for an enthusiastic and experienced cooking instructor to work with a group of highly energetic sixth graders. You do not need to be a master chef, but we are looking for people who are passionate about working with students and who are able to teach cooking basics and healthy nutrition two times each week.
The time commitment is Tuesdays and Thursdays (either from 2:30pm-5pm OR 4:00pm-5:00pm).
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
- Actively moni! tor and engage participants during all program activities, inc! luding pick-up, snack, transitions, field trips, clubs, activities, and dismissal.
- Create Project-Based Learning curricula with lesson plans for each group session. Utilize curricula and lesson plans to facilitate purposeful and engaging activities and on-going theme-based projects
- Serve as a positive role model for participants.
- Collaborate with co-workers and program supervisors around effective program operations
- Demonstrate professional behavior at all times.
- Actively participate in training and professional development to continuously increase knowledge, principles and practices of child and youth development and actively use this knowledge to achieve the goals of the program.
- Develop leadership skills, team-building and self-advocacy among all participants.
- Promote an inclusive, welcoming, and respectful environment that embraces diversity.
- Foster academic and non-academic skills and broaden parti! cipant horizons.
- Maintain accurate daily attendance records for all assigned activities.
- High School or General Equivalency Diploma; Current college students encouraged to apply
- At least one year after-school work experience, one full summer camp work experience, or two years related experience with youth. Past work with middle school aged young people preferred
- Solid behavior management skills and strategies
- Interest and experience in youth development and academic enrichment.
- A genuine enthusiasm for developing professional skills through training opportunities, observation, coaching, and feedback.
