This role is with the Dole Fresh Vegetables (DFV) division. DFV will provide INTERNAL CANDIDATES priority and consideration of their success in existing and prior roles as valid experience.
GENERAL DESCRIPTION / PRIMARY PURPOSE:
This position is responsible for managing harvesting crews to harvest and pack a quality pack of cauliflower in a safe manner while minimizing harvesting labor cost and overseeing the preparation of the product for delivery to the cooler in the shortest possible time and at the least possible cost. This position is based in Salinas and relocates to Yuma for the season.
MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES AND TASKS/DUTIES OF THE POSITION:
- Supervise Bud and Non Bud harvesting crews assuring consistency in quality and pack.
- Oversee labor productivity of harvesting crews.
- Ability to plan for future harvest.
- Determine when field haul equipment should be dispatched to a field, and how that equipment should enter and exit the harvesting area.
- Accurately complete and on a timely basis the planning and scheduling of the harvest crews.
- Determine the physical location of the harvest crews.
- Communicate orally with crew management, forepersons, and employees and to have adequate written skills to prepare written documentation.
- Make every effort to eliminate any type of safety incident.
- Manage crew labor problems and hold to a minimum no unjustified grievances.
- Maintain harvest equipment in same condition as received, less normal wear and tear.
- Stay in compliance with employee safety and food safety regulations
- Ability to prepare accurate production estimates for the current week and following 4 weeks.
- Other duties as assigned.
Required Skills
JOB SPECIFIC COMPETENCIES:
- Minimum of 1 to 3 years’ experience as a cauliflower foreperson.
- Understand principles of proper cauliflower harvesting.
- Literate and have mastered the four basic mathematical skills
- Ability to accomplish work on time and correct errors in a timely manner.
- Must have the ability to exercise considerable judgment, appear for work on time, follow directions, interact well with co-workers, understand and follow posted work rules/procedures and to accept constructive criticism.
- Flexibility to adapt to changes when needed while still minimizing cost and assuring quality.
- Ability to take action at times without the opportunity to consult with a superintendent.
- Mastery of all aspects of a foreperson’s job, including crew supervision, quality, hiring and discharging of bargaining unit employees, scheduling and field haul scheduling.
- Ability to maintain a positive work environment.
- Fluent in all aspects of Spanish and adequate verbal English.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
- Ability to work in various weather conditions
- Ability to walk in uneven ground
- Ability to lift up to 50 pounds
- Ability to climb on and off harvesting equipment
- Ability to travel to various harvesting locations and relocate
WORK HOUR & TRAVEL REQUIREMENTS:
- Ability to work long hours and work 7 days a week when necessary.
Required Experience
EXPERIENCE & EDUCATION:
- H.S. Diploma or equivalent experience
PAY RATE:
- $80,000 - $82,000 Annually
