This post is located in UN-Habitat at the New York duty station.

Responsibilities

Under the direction of the Chief of Advocacy, Outreach and Communications, the incumbent will perform the following duties: 1. Work on the preparations of the UN-Habitat outreach plan launch focusing on some major events such as World Habitat Day and World Urban Forum (WUF). 2. Be the focal point in New York for the WUF and the World Urban Campaign (WUC) projects in preparation for the Habitat III conference taking place in 2016; Provide substantive support to the preparation, management and follow-up recommendations of each project. 3. Work on the advocacy and outreach preparations to sensitize and promote the Habitat Agenda in anticipation of Habitat III. 4. Assist the Chief in synthesizing the reports, draft proposals, and following up on t! he implementation of the UN-Habitat Advocacy, Outreach and Com! munications Strategy. 5. Analyze the strategies to be developed in the future for better UN-Habitat branding and outreach of UN-Habitat activities. 6. Identify advocacy/media partners who are potentially interested to work with UN-Habitat. 7. Strengthen links with the UN Media and Public Information Department in New York to improve the level of involvement of UN-Habitat in all UN global programs and campaigns. 8. Establish links with any UN agencies or programs to link them with the UN-Habitat activities or to improve our knowledge of tools already used by them. 9. Assist with management of consultancy contracts for the WUF and WUC units. 10. Perform other related duties as may be assigned.

Education

Advanced University degree (Master’s degree or equivalent) in social sciences, urban/environmental planning, economics, law, international relations or related area. Additional qualification in globalization, development and diplomatic studies will be an advantage. A first university degree in combination with two years professional and academic qualifications may be accepted in lieu of the advanced degree.

Work Experience

A minimum of five years of relevant experience in urban planning policy analysis and synthesis, of which at least three years should be in multidisciplinary human settlements development, legislative processes and/or mobilisation of partners and non-governmental organizations in promoting social inclusion and sustainable development. Qualifying years of experience are calculated following the receipt of the first level university de! gree recognized by the United Nations.

Languages

English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. For the post advertised, fluency in oral and written English is required. Working knowledge of another UN language is desirable.

Assessment Method

Evaluation of qualified candidates may include an assessment exercise which will be followed by competency-based interview.
