The Financial Services Specialist (FSS) position provides daily oversight of transaction processing and volumes to ensure stability, quality and timeliness of transaction processing. Responsible for approving and auditing transactions generated by the Financial Transaction Representatives in the area of accounts receivable, payroll, procurement, student employment and general ledger. Provides and assists with financial management, analysis, and reporting, planning and budgeting support to small units.

Position provides performance dialogue input for Financial Transaction Representatives and Account Representatives;

partners with entire Business Service Center team to develop and implement best practices; and provides support to other teams during peak work transaction processing periods, as needed or requested.

Each Financial Services Specialist will be a generalist wi! th a good understanding of many university processes and how t! hey relate to each other rather than a specialist in one functional area. In consultation with other Service Centers, this position will assist with the development and implementation of “best practice” business procedures to improve services, minimize turnaround time to improve efficiencies and effectiveness to best serve customers.

Employees are required to attend staff development training. Employees will participate in performance evaluations including dialogues, 360 degree surveys, assessments, etc.

Qualifications

Associate's Degree in accounting, finance or related field and three years related experience or equivalent combination of educations and experience. Experience with computer applicati! ons in MS Excel, MS Word, MS Access, etc.

Ability to use sound judgment and decision making in accomplishing tasks that are urgent or of a sensitive/confidential nature. Must have the ability to use discretion when working with high levels of executives (i.e., Vice Provosts, Vice Presidents, Deans, Chairs, etc.). Must be comfortable working in an environment where change in process/procedures frequently occurs. Demonstrated strong written/oral communication and interpersonal skills, and ability to build strong relationships to work effectively with a wide array of constituencies (internal and external). Demonstrated experience effectively working independently as well as collaboratively as part of a team. Ability to be adaptable and flexible while responding to deadlines on assignments and workflow fluctuations. Demonstrated ability to take initiative and set priorities to manage multiple, competing demands.

Preferred:
BS/BA in accounting, finan! ce, or related field preferred.

Experience with Cornell polici! es and procedures in the areas of accounting, purchasing, accounts payable and knowledge of Cornell on-line systems ( Kuali Financial System, Exchange (email/calendaring), KRONOS, Workday) and experience and knowledge in university financial account structure, transaction systems and reporting tools helpful. Demonstrated ability to contribute towards the development and implementation of new financial support systems very beneficial.
