MDRC is seeking a dynamic and driven Research/Management Assistant to join our nationally recognized and highly respected public policy research organization. Th! e Research/Management Assistant will have the unique opportunity to do work that spans all of MDRCâs policy areas â" families and children, K-12 education, postsecondary education, low-wage workers and communities, and health and barriers to employment â" through involvement in the Accountability and Deployment Department as well as on the Behavioral Interventions to Advance Self-Sufficiency (BIAS) project, as described in more detail below.
Responsibilities:
The Research/Management Assistant will focus on a range of research and organizational tasks across MDRC. The new assistant will be a member of the MDRC management team and will work with senior leadership in two areas:
Accountability and Deployment (AD): The AD department focuses on company-wide management and aims to support all projects through project management tools, risk mitigation, quality assurance, and staffing support. Working under the guidance and supervision of lead! ing researchers and managers, the Research/Management Assistan! t will:
Help manage the company-wide quality assurance and risk management program
Contribute to cross-policy-area efforts to monitor staff deployment and needs
Assist resource managers with budget and progress monitoring of large-scale research projects and internal initiatives
Coordinate large federal and foundation funding proposals
Work with a team to develop, beta-test, and maintain project management systems and tools
Behavioral Interventions to Advance Self-Sufficiency (BIAS): BIAS, a project that crosses all policy areas at MDRC, is the first major opportunity to apply a behavioral research lens to such public programs as child care, child support, child welfare, and cash assistance. The Research/Management Assistant will participate in technical assistance, field research activities, and provide general administrative project support. The position provides the successful candidate an opportunity to:
Assist in all stages of program and evaluation design and implementation
Coordinate and participate in site development and data collection visits
Contribute to various stages of producing reports and papers
Qualifications:
Bachelorâs degree in public policy, economics, psychology, sociology, business, communication, or a related field
Self-motivated â" excited to take on new tasks and think creatively about solutions to problems
Strong attention to detail â" ability to keep multiple assignments going at once and prioritize when necessary
Exceptional verbal and written communication skills
Demonstrated sensitivity to conduct research and technical assistance in diverse communities and the ability to relate to program management staff, site staff, community residents, and program clients
Ability to work both independently and as part of a team
Strong interest in public policy ! work
Experience managing databases and/or project management t! ools a plus
