A News Video Editors job is primarily focused on the editing of raw or pre-recorded material (video, audio and graphics) into a finished product suitable for broadcast withi! n news bulletins or news programs.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
Editing a variety of news items for broadcast.
Liaising with News-room and PCR staff.
Quality checking all News bulletin content
Ensuring all items make their allocated TX deadlines, whether for news or current affairs.
All work will be completed to a high technical standard
Possess the ability to listen and effectively communicate ideas
Be a team player. You will work closely with other team members, Journalists and producers
Possess the ability to work independently. A News Video Editor should be able to make sound judgement about shot and audio selection. They should also be trusted to complete their work without constant guidance from producers, journalists or other editors
You must have a sound knowledge of broadcast technology. This would include matrix & talkback panels, phone recording equipment, voice-over recording eq! uipment, computers and related software and hardware.
! You will be responsible for working calmly and effectively in extremely stressful time critical situations.
Keeping up-to-date with world news and current affairs.
Willingness to work long hours when required.
Be punctual, ensuring you turn up prior to a shift starting so you are ready to commence work on time.
You will work in a 24 hour shift pattern, working days and/or overnights.
OTHER RESPONSIBILITIES:
Editors can be deployed into the field during large news events. In this situation they will be responsible for editing and sending items back to the news centers for broadcast.
Editors can be deployed to other news centers to cover staffing shortages. In these situations they will be expected to perform as they would in their usual role.
EDUCATION:
High school diploma or higher
EXPERIENCE:
A minimum of 5 yearsâ experience working as a non-linear video editor in a ! television news environment. Experience in long-form craft editing would also be useful

Excellent sense of pace and timing
Ability to visualize the written word and express it in pictures and sound to achieve the producer's or journalistâs vision
Skill to edit creative or meaningful sequences from available footage.
Having an eye for detail
Having a high level of computer literacy
Fluent English language skills â" written and oral
KNOWLEDGE:
An editor should have a comprehensive operational knowledge of Avid editing software and hardware
Knowledge of the general systems, practices and broadcast standards within a wider news/operational environment
An understanding of voice-over recording and sound mixing
An understanding of how to use an! d incorporate graphical elements
A good knowledge of colour-co! rrection and legalization techniques
Knowledge of news and current affairs
