DUTIES:
The incumbent provides support to all clinical staff located in the outpatient clinics. S/he serves as a Medical Support Assistant in Outpatient Care. Incumbent is responsible for a variety of administrative and clerical duties and is the liaison between the nursing staff in their assigned area and customers both internal and external to the medical center. S/he performs duties related to the receipt, intake, and indexing of health and administrative information. The incumbent will interface with personal computer applications as well as numerous medical center software applications. The Medical Support Assistant is responsible for scheduling appointments, including interpreting and verifying provider orders in accordance with Veterans Health Administration national scheduling guidelines. Assignment at this level include, but are not limited to: scheduling, canceling, re-scheduling patientÂ's appointments and/or consults: entering no-show information; monitoring the electronic wait list; preparing for clinic visits; monitoring both inpatient and outpatient appointments for area of responsibly; ensuring encounter forms are completed in order to obtain appropriate workload credit; verifying and updating demographics and insurance information; processing all emergency and non-emergency transfers to other VA facilities or private hospital; performing basic eligibility, co-pays and preauthorization requirements for specific coverage. This position may require travel between the Montrose and Castle Point campus.
Work Schedule: Monday through Friday 8AM-4:30PM

QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED:
ENGLISH LANGUAGE PROFICIENCY : In accordance with 38 U.S.C. 7402(d), No person shall serve in direct patient care positions unless they are proficient in basic written and spoken English. You must be proficient in basic written and spoken English in order to meet the requirements of this position.

Experience or Education: One year of experience equivalent to the the next lover grade level or 4 years of education above high school.
