Summary:
Sports Assistant Directors provide targeted, skill and age-appropriate instruction, coaching and mentorship to youth in SASF’s Summer Camp programs. They facilitate instruction according to the SASF Center for Sports Instruction model. Sports Assistant Directors organize and lead physical activity programming at their site, ensuring the safety of all program participants. They attend sport-specific professional development trainings and follow the Center for Sports Instruction curriculum guidelines. Sports Assistant Directors coach students and serve as role models to all SASF participants with regard to professionalism and sportsmanship.

! At the site level, Sports Assistant Directors are responsible! for creating lessons, projects and objectives that meet the individual students’ needs. He/she fosters an atmosphere of fun and learning and serves as a role model to youth, always conducting him/herself in the utmost professional manner and maintaining appropriate boundaries. They are also responsible for maintaining target number of participants.

Essential Job Functions:
Motivate students to be active on a daily basis
Ensure daily activity lesson plans and projects are structured, age-appropriate, and have clear learning goals based on the provided sports curricula
Maintain communication with Site Director and Center for Sports Instruction Program Managers regarding the centralized calendar of Center for Sports Instruction programs and special events.
Motivate students to participate in organization-wide sports activities
Prepare students for participation in organization-wide sports activities
Establish and enforce rules for beh! avior and procedures for maintaining order among the students for whom they are responsible.
Organize, lead, and promote interest in non-traditional activities such as fencing, hockey, team handball and martial arts.
Explain principles, techniques, and safety procedures to participants in the activities, and demonstrate use of materials and equipment.
Enforce safety rules and regulations governing sports, recreational activities, and the use of equipment.
Establish clear objectives for all lessons, units, and projects, and communicate those objectives to students.
Ascertain and interpret group interests and adapt activities to meet student needs.
Prepare facilities for group activities.
Greet new arrivals to activities, introducing them to other students, explaining rules, and encouraging participation.
Evaluate activity to determine if they are producing desired results.
Adapt teaching methods and instructional materials to meet students! ' varying needs and interests.
Promote and ensure the progressive d! evelopment of student skills
Promotes positive character development in all youth
Most SASF Sports Specialists are expected to provide homework support during Academic hour.
