DUTIES:
The Laundry Worker p! osition is located at the Veterans Affairs Medical Center in Albany, NY, under the direction of Environmental Management Service. The Laundry worker performs tasks with several steps or a sequence of tasks performed in sequence repetitively that require some skill or judgment and closer attention to accuracy in following set procedures. Also, they perform varied combinations of tasks in one or more functional areas of laundry processing such as receiving, sorting and marking soiled linen and apparel; processing flatwork and rough dry items and assembling and issuing clean laundry.

Major duties and responsibilities include:
·

Stocking linen carts with appropriately designated quotas of linen for daily distribution to the ward areas;

·

Transporting full carts to the shipping areas;

·

Maintaining records on daily quota sheets of linen quantities sent and returned from the using areas;

·

Prep! aring linen bundles for specified areas, clinics, etc;

·

Providing guidance to patients assigned through the Incentive Therapy Program;

·

Folding clean rough dry linens for shipment;

·

Operating garment finishing machine and towel folding machine;

·

Assisting in maintaining data for continuous monitors and orders received by telephone for additional linens;

·

Maintaining storage of clean linen in a neat, orderly and sanitary manner;

·

Accounting for all linen items stored in Linen Room for inventory requirements;

·

Responsible for the proper usage of linen/laundry delivery equipment and supplies; and

·

Performs all related duties as assigned by supervisor

Work Schedule: Monday through Friday, 8am until 4:30pm

QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED:

). For this position, the job element method is used to match what you, the applicant, can do against what the work calls for. Your knowledge, skills and abilities will be compared to the knowledge, skills and abilities (called job elements) needed for success. Your qualifications will first be evaluated against the prescribed screen out element (WG-2 and higher only; screen-outs are not applicable to WG-1). Applicants who appear to meet the screen out element are considered for further rating; those who do not are rated ineligible and are eliminated from consideration. The potential eligibles are rated against the remainder of the job elements. Physical effort and work conditions:
You must be able to stand or walk continuously on concrete floors. While they do not usually have to keep pace with machines, they need a certain amount of quickness in hand and arm movements to meet production standards. They frequently lift or move bundles weighing up to 25 pounds; however in receiving and shipping, occasional lifting of bulk bundles weighing 30 pounds is required. Must be able to adjust work pace to existing workload, which will vary from day to day. Must be able to maintain a good attendance record, possess emotiona! l and mental stability and work at a steady and efficient pace.

Work is performed in the laundry service building. Employee is subject to a high temperatures, high humidity and noise from machinery. Workers are exposed to the possibility of bruises from carts or machinery. Risk of exposure to contagious disease when performing sorting of soiled laundry-workers wear protective masks, gloves and gowns. Potential exposure to sharp objects concealed in soiled laundry.

HOW YOU WILL BE EVALUATED:
Applicants will be ranked based on three quality groups, as follows:

Best Qualified - applicants possessing knowledge, skills and abilities that substantially exceed the minimum qualifications of the position and who are highly proficient in all requirements of the job and can perform effectively in the position;

Well Qualified - applicants possessing knowledge, skills and abilities that exceed the minimum qualification of the position and who are proficient in most of the requirements of the job;

Qualified - applicants possessing knowledge, skills and abilities that meet the minimum qualifications of the position.
